emporio armani x elliott landy

 it was a happy moment when i opened my inbox to discover an invitation to an exclusive preview of an exhibition of Elliott Landy's photos (entitled Icons from Woodstock) hosted by Emporio Armani in Manchester. a 4-hour journey and a few train debacles later, i was at the polished threshold of the ultra-modern Armani store in Spinningfields, cocktail and canapes in hand, for what proved to be an evening of new friends, great clothes and stunning photography.

about the exhibition:

From 1967 to 1969 Elliott Landy, an American artist and photographer, captured a number of soon to be iconic rock and roll stars such as Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison. His creative use of infrared film created some brilliantly colourful images that then went on to be used on record and magazine covers. The exhibition pays homage to an era that marked a great moment in the history of popular music and American culture.

the exhibition is on at the Armani store until MONDAY 7 MAY, after which it will be moving to Milan, so i'd absolutely recommend going if you're up north!

Manchester Fashion Week report

On Thursday I was lucky enough to attend a full day of Manchester’s first ever Fashion Week, held at The Avenue in Spinningfields. With press passes, front row seats, plenty of bubbly and five fantastic fashion shows, it was an event to remember to say the least. Rather than unveiling the upcoming season’s trends (which were, of course, unveiled a while back at the big-name fashion weeks), labels presented what was essentially a live lookbook of their current in-store collections. And the best thing about Manchester’s take on the biggest events of the fashion world? At around £20 per show or £50 per day of shows, it is entirely accessible to the public.

J and I sprinted in just in time to get branded with PRESS stamps and slide smoothly into our “Reserved for Media” places in the front row of the Brooks Brothers show. Dominated by formal wear, Brooks Brothers presented a traditional, if slick, array of the reds, whites and blues of a British summer. The men’s wear was more impressive than the women’s, and this particular poolside look caught my eye for the on-trend mint green of the swimming shorts coolly combined with a shirt and bowtie for a quirky look of class.
